Ulcerative colitis is a chronic inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) that primarily affects the colon and rectum. It belongs to a group of conditions known as inflammatory bowel diseases, which also includes Crohn's disease. 

In ulcerative colitis, the inner lining of the colon and rectum becomes inflamed and develops tiny open sores, or ulcers, which can lead to symptoms such as abdominal pain, diarrhea, rectal bleeding, and weight loss.

Living with ulcerative colitis requires immense courage and bravery due to the physical and emotional challenges it presents.
